Calumet Services Ltd was appointed to undertake the design, procurement, installation and commissioning of the mechanical services for The Wing, Bremont Watches’ purpose-built headquarters and Manufacturing & Technology Centre in Henley-on-Thames.
Set within the Chiltern Valley, The Wing is a state-of-the-art 35,000sq ft facility bringing together Bremont’s administrative headquarters, watchmaking, engineering and manufacturing operations. The facility plays a central role in the company’s production of British-made luxury timepieces, providing a specialist environment where precision engineering, assembly and craftsmanship are brought together under one roof.
The development comprises two principal buildings, combining the company’s administrative headquarters with its dedicated watchmaking and manufacturing facility. The specialist nature of the operation required carefully controlled internal environments alongside a high-quality mechanical services installation sympathetic to the contemporary architectural design.
Delivered on a design and build basis, the project incorporated a combination of concealed services within ceiling voids and deliberately exposed mechanical services, requiring careful coordination and a particularly high standard of installation and finish.
THE MECHANICAL SERVICES PACKAGE INCLUDED:
- Complete Mitsubishi Electric VRF air conditioning systems providing heating and cooling throughout the development.
- Air Handling Units (AHUs) providing tempered fresh air to occupied and operational areas.
- Complete ventilation and ductwork systems, incorporating both exposed and concealed installations together with fabric airsock air distribution systems within designated areas.
- Boosted cold water services, including new cold water storage tanks and associated distribution.
- Gas-fired domestic hot water generation and associated hot water distribution systems.
- Complete domestic water services serving toilet, kitchen and welfare facilities.
- Electric trench heating and electric panel heaters serving designated areas.
- Complete above-ground soil, waste and drainage systems.
- Comprehensive Building Management System (BMS) controls providing monitoring and control of the mechanical services.
- Thermal insulation to associated pipework, ductwork and mechanical services.
- Complete testing, commissioning and chlorination of the installed systems.
The project demonstrates Calumet Services’ ability to deliver a high-quality, fully coordinated design and build mechanical services package within a specialist manufacturing and headquarters environment, successfully integrating architectural exposed services with the environmental control and building services required to support a modern precision engineering facility
